There have been some changes at Jewish Feminist Resources!

There is a new section, Recipe Stories, waiting for submitions. Many of us have had the experience of communication through cooking food with someone or for someone else. I remember the long talks that my mother and I had over chicken soup, for example. Those talks were formative feminist experiences for me. Please post yours. (Not to mention that there may be some pretty interesting recipes!)

I've added a gift center. Your purchases of software, CDs, videos, fine coffees, spices and marinades, clothes and linens - in addition to books and Jewish music CDs -- will help support Jewish Feminist Resources. Plus it's convenient for you. Check it out at

If you have suggestions or comments, please email me at jfeministr@aol.com.

There's a new message board called "Supporting Independent Bookstores". I put up this board to discuss the issues of what exactly is an independent bookstore and the way that the Web is changing our perceptions of ethical competition. As I say in my response to one post, Jewish Feminist Resources is an independent feminist bookstore/resource center, operating on the Web only and using amazon.com as its distributor. Do come and discuss.

NEW BOOKS:

Meditation from the Heart of Judaism: Today's Teachers Share Their Practices, Techniques, and Faith by Avram Davis(Editor)

Includes articles by Sylvia Boorstein, Nan Fink, Shefa Gold, Lynn Gottleib, Shohama Wiener, Sheila Peltz Weinberg and many more. Very much recommended.

The Book of Miriam by Leonard Angel

Written by Vancouver poet and philosopher Leonard Angel, the book asks the question, "What if women had written the Torah?" The book is an epic poem which also serves as a guide for spiritual practice. Narratives intertwine with wisdom teachings.

Language of Truth: The Torah Commentary of Sefat Emet by Judah Aryeh Leib Alter, Arthur Green (Translator)

An important new commentary and although not to be classified as feminist, a good book for your general Jewish library.
